Top 20(11): 2. SBTRKT – Wildfire
I can’t think of an other album that I’ve been playing so much this year. SBTRKT brings the perfect pop, without losing the typical UK sound. Both singles (Wildfire and especially Pharaohs) got plenty of airplay. Wildfire may be a bit odd in the Worlds Below collection, but it’s a damn good song.
We had ‘Right Thing To Do‘ on the blog before.

Andrea – Retail Juke
I think this is the first Juke release we’re covering at Worlds Below. I took me a while to appreciate the speedy drumsounds and especially I have to get over the vocalloops. Andrea gets me over my doubts, and delivers this strong 12″ on Daphne records. Lingering pads contrast with the fast triggered vocal snippets and plastic drums. From good to better.

Dark Arx – Blood Vein
Dark Arx is a label from London, trying to bridge the gap between dubtechno and UK garage. Expect the subtleness of Berlin combined with the ravier London street sounds. The result is a refreshing and well crafted tune. Recommended!
Check their Soundcloud for more music!

Deadboy – If U Want Me
Finally finally FINALLY this song has hit the streets as a digital download on the new Numbers label. Vinyl has sold out of distribution in one day!! Tapping into London’s rich musical heritage from early 90′s Hardcore all the way through to UK Garage and House, Deadboy’s ‘If you want me’ still shares the same sense of futuristic melancholia as the first wave of Detroit Techno by the likes of Derrick May and Juan Atkins. Future classic.
Ah, and you’re a fool if you haven’t checked out the equally brilliant ‘U Cheated‘ before!

Rob Smith Feat. Gaddiel – Living In Unity
A classic Bristol soundsystem anthem, remastered and re-released on Unearthed, Punch Drunk’s new sister label.

Aubrey – Dark (Pendle Coven Mix)
Pendle Coven remixes this Basic Channel sounding track by veteran Aubrey. It’s dirtier than I’m used to hear from Pendle Coven, but it’s got a floating atmosphere which I like too much.
Check out the other remix and the original version on the official release.

XXXY – This Much
Great new stuff from XXXY. He has been on our radar screen before, but seriously watch this guy in 2010! Quirky cut-up vocals, great bassline and funky twostep breaks. Lovely new track.
