Model 500 – Wanna Be There

History lesson, Detroit meets Ghent: Model 500 on R&S records. It’s frankly amazing how relevant this track from the legendary group surrounding Juan Atkins sounds today.

As a little extra, Model 500′s No UFOs performed on Detroit’s New Dance Show in 1986 (!). We were still in our nappies and these people were already busting moves to heavy stomping beats!

    Technasia – Force

Perhaps the best tune from this legendary techno outfit. Already dating back 10 years, this tune still sounds as heavy as it did then: a rolling chord monster! Enjoy the non-vocal version below. Switch to 480p for better sound quality!

killer tune! This totally defines the sound of parties around the time I was allowed to go clubbing :) I’ve always loved this kind of techno and I still loathe the harder minimal approach it took soon after :(
But this track is just MADNESS!!! :D

      Great post!

Theo Parrish – Falling up (Carl Craig remix)

A perfect remix by CC from 2005 that he still plays now and again in his sets. For me, techno doesn’t come much better than this. Tune in, embrace and enjoy!

    Ellen Allien – Our Utopie

This sounds good. Very good actually. B-pitch labelboss Ellen Allien released her 5th album yesterday and ‘Our Utopie’ is the hypnotic opening track. Definitely sounds warmer and less clinical than the slightly disappointing “Sool”.

This is only a snippet by the way – full track is 4.10 minutes, but not available yet on youtube.

    Jacob Korn – Grosskariert

We’re loving Jacob Korn here at the Worldsbelow100Hz (check out the comments to an earlier post with music of the man from Dresden here), so let’s bring this guy again to your attention. ‘Grosskariert’ was released late last year on the terminally hip Permanent Vacation label on the nicely titled ‘If this is house, I want my money back’ compilation. This tune has D-E-T-R-O-I-T stamped on its forehead and I would go completely nuts on the dancefloor hearing this one out loud. Only after I discovered this tune I realised that Martyn picked up the tune for his XLR8R podcast as well, which shows again that there are no boundaries when it comes to good music in the world below 100hz.

    Robyn – None of dem

I’ve always had a weak spot for Robyn. Her Swedish debut-album back in 2005 was one of my favourite pop-records from the noughties. I’m still wondering why she isn’t as big as Kylie or Lady Gaga. Finally her new album (Bodytalk Part 1) is out. This song has a great M.I.A. vibe, and the bass is MASSIVE. Loving it.

Great tune, any idea who’s the producer?

    • Esco 01:42 on May 17, 2010 Permalink

Believe it or not but Royksopp actually produced this!

Robert Hood – And Then We Planned Our Escape

Some pumping minimal Detroit techno for you, from Underground Resistance co-founder Robert Hood. Released on the Belgian Music Man Records back in 2007, this banger just picks up with the beat and doesn’t let down over the course of 7 minutes. If you like driving basslines and trance-like continuity, then this is right up your alley.

Totally dig this tune. Love how uptempo it is. And you can always get me with a driving bassline and how the almost hypnotic infinite repeat almost lulls you into a trancelike state.

Carsten Jost – Days gone by

Dial Records from Hamburg releases a new compilation filled with techno-at-ease, emotional minimal and roadtrip-by-night electronica. This reminds me of Superpitcher‘s excellent mix album ‘Today’. This compil is in the same league, and I love every second of it. Essential!

Boomkat has the full album as download. Go and buy it if you like this.
