DJ Earl – Had My Way
Sully released Carrier on Keysound Recoridngs in 2011. ‘Let You’ sounds like polished grime from early 2000′s. Sully knows how to put a fine reverb on the stab melody. With tight precision he blends a crisp and pounding bassline and R&B vocals on repeat(is it Rihanna, maybe Beyoncé?). The end result is damn funky!
Merry Christmas!
FaltyDL released ‘You Stand Uncertain‘ on Planet Mu. It’s one of my favorite albums of the year, so he is opening my top 20 of 2011. It was also the year where juke music gained higher recognition. More and more artists are experimenting with the high paced drum computer sounds, adding new styles, influences and flavors to the Chicago sound. Experience both FaltyDL and juke in this remix for one of the highlights of ‘You Stand Uncertain’: ‘Brazil’.
I think this is the first Juke release we’re covering at Worlds Below. I took me a while to appreciate the speedy drumsounds and especially I have to get over the vocalloops. Andrea gets me over my doubts, and delivers this strong 12″ on Daphne records. Lingering pads contrast with the fast triggered vocal snippets and plastic drums. From good to better.
Ikonika releases her debut album ‘Contact, Love, Want, Have’ on April 6 on the mighty Hyperdub label. Expect 8-bit melodic madness, fierce basslines and killer beats. This girl is so on point!
Check ‘Heston’, another track of her album on our Facebook page.
