Headhunter – Lost Prophet / Chasing Dragons
I’ve been a big fan of Headhunter ever since his early EP’s and finally the culmination on the Nomad album. Whilst he’s been rather quiet on the producer front, his name did pop up after a bit of to and froing with a white label remix he did for Modeselektor, after which Modeselektor responded with the epic Prototype remix that shook many a dancefloor during the summer and long thereafter.
After a bit of a dry spell, he’s back again, and how. A side Lost Prophet has maybe the deepest baselines I’ve heard in a long time. B side Chasing Dragons is a bit of a sidestep of his signature sound, though driving basslines still triumph the more upbeat rythm.

Asusu – No Kya
This one has been floating around for a while now (original post on soundcloud dates from January this year), but it finally got its release. Project Squared releases Asusu’s beautiful No Kya, supported by a remix by F on the flipside. Because of the details, No Kya is made for your headphones. Enjoy the filtered stab sounds, warm pads in the background and that subtle tickling stacatto sound. Release is today!

Echodub – Anechoic Chamber Remixed
Echodub keeps on releasing quality tunes, balancing between ambient, dubtechno and dubstep. Their first album ‘Anechoic Chamber’ gets the remix treat with contributions of XXXY, HxdB and DFRNT. Highly recommended!

Kontext – Searching For Transcendental
Kontext has lowered the drum&bass-bpm-counter, so this track floats somewhere between drum’n'bass and fast electro. Piano chords are perfectly delayed and reverberated, which gives the track a spaced out character. Heavy stuff!
Kontext released his album ‘Dissociate’ on Immerse.

Dark Arx – Blood Vein
Dark Arx is a label from London, trying to bridge the gap between dubtechno and UK garage. Expect the subtleness of Berlin combined with the ravier London street sounds. The result is a refreshing and well crafted tune. Recommended!
Check their Soundcloud for more music!

Silent Servant – Violencia (Kalon rmx)
Released on Sandwell District, praised by Resident Advisor as the best techno label in the world, this Silent Servant track from 2008 really hits home. Kalon, a UK techno outfit, stepped away from the moody original and produced a driving techno track with a definite club vibe to it.

Mikkel Metal – Kenton
Copenhagen’s Mikkel Meldgaard started off his musical journey as a guitar player in various bands. By the mid-ninetees, he got into electronic music and started experimenting with beats and samplers. Towards the end of the century he found his sound in techno, heavily laden with dub influences. Nowadays we find him on Berlin’s Kompakt label where he continues his slow and driving 4/4 dubtechno sound.
Kenton EP was released in July 2009 on Echocord Colour and features a remix by Marcel Detterman on the flipside, which featured in Modeselektor’s Resident Advisor mix last September. (I prefer the original though. I just love the driving sound. It seems like this track never ends).
