Dark Arx is a label from London, trying to bridge the gap between dubtechno and UK garage. Expect the subtleness of Berlin combined with the ravier London street sounds. The result is a refreshing and well crafted tune. Recommended!

With this trio teaming up, what else can you expect than darkness, experimental sounds and stripped down beats? The main line reminds me of eighties new wave, or of a track from Aphex’ ambient collection. Obscure and special, check it out.

Breakage & Burial – Vial

Breakage releases his second album ‘Foundation’ next week, and we will be showcasing two tracks of the album on Worlds Below. First one is the long awaited cooporation between Burial and Breakage. ‘Vial’ is cold, minimalistic and a perfect combination of Burial’s soundscaping talent and Breakage excellent production skills. It’s not the most touching track from Burial or Breakage, but nevertheless very good yes indeed.

Distance – Fallen (Vex’d remix)

Distance‘s classic track ‘Fallen’ (listen here) got the remix from Vex’d on Planet Mu. Those triggered vocals and the reverb on the snare give the track a haunting atmosphere, but near the end fresh pads announce a moodchange. Before the moodchange comes into full effect the track finishes. Twisted and brilliant stuff.

Massive Attack – Paradise Circus (Breakage’s Tight Rope Remix)

Breakage remixes ‘Paradise Circus’, the first single of Massive Attack‘s new album ‘Heligoland’. What already was a beautiful song, has been edited by the bass-meister. The track has been stripped down till only the vocal remains. The piano returns in the break, and a suprising extra layer of drums adds speed to the second part of the track after the break.

Dark and moody, atmospheric, haunting,… the adjectives just stack up for this one by Warp’s most recent addition. The slow, deep groove takes you on a cinematic trip down a dark passage. Vancouver’s Cameron Reed’s first EP, “Shaved”, dropped earlier this month. Below you’ll find the title track, my favorite from the EP.

The video really captures the eery and dramatic feel of the music, adding another layer to the impact it has. It was produced by a motion picture collective named SALAZAR, also based in Vancouver. Their focus has been on music videoclips and other narrative work, and they’ve recently expanded their territory into advertising. Be sure to check the rest of their work, it’s equally awesome.

Peter Van Hoesen – Abstract One

Fuse club in Brussels has a new resident DJ, Peter Van Hoesen. If you’re into Basic Channel, you’ll like his stuff. Like this ‘Abstract One’, his 4/4 sounds are scaped from pure blackness. So I’m curious to see how that will work out on the dancefloor. You can download his last EP for free at bandcamp (in excellent 320 quality)!

DJ Krush – Only The Strong Survive

Krush and CL Smooth in probably the most known Krush track around. It’s one of the darkest hip-hop track I know of, because the lyrics, CL’s voice and the music oozes a strange combination of intimacy and nightly street life. Spine chilling and all time classic!

This new release drops on Ninja Tune, and how!! “Drop The Other” gets the Scuba refix and oozes a gloomy street atmosphere, where streetlights flickers while the rain pours night after night. Essential stuff.
