I:Cube – Grandes Orgues
One of my favourite French producers just released the Mérovingienne EP on Versatile Records. This is how I like my house.

History lesson, Detroit meets Ghent: Model 500 on R&S records. It’s frankly amazing how relevant this track from the legendary group surrounding Juan Atkins sounds today.
As a little extra, Model 500′s No UFOs performed on Detroit’s New Dance Show in 1986 (!). We were still in our nappies and these people were already busting moves to heavy stomping beats!
Deadboy keeps on delivering. This time with an exquisite remix for one of the few indie-bands that I like: Foals. Melancholic yet funky. Free mp3 through XLR8R here.
Martyn’s minimix has been on repeat since this weekend, and one track sticks out. It’s Grown Ups by Donga & Blake, and it sticks out because of its soothening pad sounds and warm bassline. Lovely discovery!
thanks so much for highlighting this!!

D-Bridge brings his minimalistic flavour to the hypnotic track ‘Tense’ by Scuba, released on Hotshore in 2008. The pulsating bass is dense, the warm pads uplifting. Great stuff!

After it issued that brilliant Jacob Korn tune, Dolly now releases ‘Redbox’ by old time Dutch favourite Dexter. Expect Detroit oriented dancefloor old school house with a killer synth on this B-side. As Boomkat says: “It’s hard to this sort of pure club track justice in words, you need to feel this in situ and you’ll know the craic.” Damn right baby.
Nottingham based Lone has had a solid run on the awesome Werk Discs label alongside Actress and Lukid. This remix he did for Planet Mu new signee Solar Bears just oozes with atmosphere. Lone makes the track his own with his signature joyful melodies and uptempo beats, resulting in a sort of happy dance floor Boards of Canada (if you can imagine such a thing? – if not, check the track!).
Extra: Lone – Once in a while
Another less recent Lone track that you’ve probably heard in some sets or radio shows.
Ike Release is on a strictly skippers tip with ‘Iridescent’ arranging glassy synth movements with sticky 2-step patterns and a deep blue mood.
The liquid D’n'B legend turns his hand to dubstep again for a second 12″ ‘pon Mala’s Deep Medi label. ‘Tenopause’ is the sweeter of the two tracks, using deftly spaced percussion and plummeting subbass depths arranged with the level of sophistication you’d expect. ‘Discreet Dub’ is a darker effort, using mystical pipes, dread bass and Fabio Frizzi-esque synth flourishes to cinematic effect.
CMYK is only the third release from London electronic producer James Blake, who is only 21. His style is already recognizable: progressions of thick soul and jazz chords, pitched-down and mangled vocals, and mid-tempo beats that balance synthesized sub-bass with handclaps, snaps, and other humanizing soundlets. But each of his releases– last year’s “Air & Lack Thereof” / “Sparing the Horses” single, February’s The Bells Sketch EP, and now, CMYK EP– also sounds like its own project, filled with private rules and concepts. He’s writing his theme and his variations at the same time.

The atmosphere reminds me a bit of Today mixtape by Superpitcher. Sweet!
