Roni Size – Lucky Pressure
Heard this one back for the first time in a looooong time. Can’t believe it’s almost 10 years old! One of the last good Roni Size tunes imho.

Is this too cheesy you think? The sax sounds like it just escaped a Dynasty episode from 1987, the beats aren’t that sophisticated, and with an artist name like Guido you’re in serious danger you won’t be taken seriously. Still, this mutated dubstep track with a pitched up vocal is oh so enjoyable. The album is worth checking out as it’s the first full length to appear on Punch Drunk Records (Pinch, Peverelist, Shortstuff..)
The first single is even better:
Leftfield hiphop with a psychedelic twitch for those who dig TI, Spacek and/or Sonar Kollektiv. His new album is out on August 3d.
“Body Hotel” is a song that Schad Privat and Thomas Schaeben released 10 years ago on the first label compilation, FIRM 02. Now relatively new kid on the block Coma did a new remix of the wonderful song. For the Kompakt lovers.

One of my favourite French producers just released the Mérovingienne EP on Versatile Records. This is how I like my house.
Deadboy keeps on delivering. This time with an exquisite remix for one of the few indie-bands that I like: Foals. Melancholic yet funky. Free mp3 through XLR8R here.
not a big fan of deadboy, though i really like this. Love Foals though.

After it issued that brilliant Jacob Korn tune, Dolly now releases ‘Redbox’ by old time Dutch favourite Dexter. Expect Detroit oriented dancefloor old school house with a killer synth on this B-side. As Boomkat says: “It’s hard to this sort of pure club track justice in words, you need to feel this in situ and you’ll know the craic.” Damn right baby.
XLR8R brings us this amazing remix of the otherwise mediocre indie-band We Are Standard. (No pun intended) Spanish producer John Talabot remixes this song into a slow-burning subtle space house jam which has a Jacob Korn vibe attached to it. Awesome.
Listen to it here
Talabot released this week also the lovely ‘Matilda’s dream’ on Permanent Vacation, which reminds me a bit of Jimpster.
When I heard this song for the first time in 1996 I instantly fell in love with it, and I’m still getting goosebumps when I hear the break in the full version (this is only the second part of The Box). But I bet you didn’t know that the main actress in the clip is Tilda Swinton, whom I just saw on DVD in the excellent ‘Michael Clayton‘.
classic tune. beautiful!
Clubroot has often been hailed as ‘the new Burial’, but hasn’t really caused a stir in the dubstep community. I’m not sure his new album is gonna change much to that position, but personally I’m just glad this 25-year old kid issued a new album (II- MMX) filled with “dreamy bass heavy space music around the 140 [bpm] mark”, as he describes it himself. The title of this track (‘Cherubs cry’) says a lot about the atmosphere in this track.

The atmosphere reminds me a bit of Today mixtape by Superpitcher. Sweet!
