Saturday evening classic! I’m slowly starting to get my list together of best albums of the noughties (2000-2009) and then I can’t forget ‘Dislocated Genius’ of course, probably my favourite dance-record of 2005. I saw Chelonis R. Jones once live and remember having a somewhat religious experience when the deep bassline changed in this tune at 1.37. Seriously. Together with Booka Shade’s ‘Movements’ the best album of Get Physical Records ever. Welcome to The Church of Deep House.
UK beat scientist and personal favorite Floating Points is on a roll. After remixing Basement Jaxx, Floating Points gives a warm cosmic twist to Sebastian Tellier’s last single from his ‘Sexuality’ album. Even better news: Fact magazine offers the tune for free here. Grab it while it’s hot!
Rings Around Saturn is without any doubt my favourite Photek tune. The sweetness of the rain in the background with the bird’s song, the pads, the bass and the perfect drum programming make this song a delight to listen. Makes me smile everytime I hear it. Classic!!
Upcoming Australian artist Consequence seduced D-Bridge with his dark moody drum’n'bass to release his debut album on Exit Recordings. Lost Attack is one of his earlier tracks. The complex rhythms and epical atmospherics of Lost Attack create a track which could perfectly fit as the soundtrack to an apocaliptical science fiction movie.
Meticilous handicrafted beat programming, bass tweaking and atmosphere creating. For the fans of Burial’s somberness. Mad track.
I read about a new dubtechno release by Fenin. As I didn’t hear about this artist before, I crawled a bit further in the guy’s release history. I discovered this beauty, ‘A Try’. It was released on Shitkatapult in 2008. And, you can download it for free in MP3 format.
The B-side of the new release of Joy Orbison on his own imprint ‘Doldrums’. This guy is firing the dancefloor with a mixture of broken beats, UK Funky influences and a serious house vibe. He is uplifting the darker sounds of dubstep and breaking the 4/4 house pattern. This 12″ is essentialy great, and due to this release I vote Joy Orbison thé newcoming artist of 2009. Bravo!
First heard this one on DFRNT‘s Sonic Router mix. Ravey dubstep-aka-house track by Myrkur. It’s uplifting, yet introvert. The bass is whoopwhooping and the ravey leadsynth takes you back to the early nineties. A mixture of past and future, a perfect showcase of the sound of NOW!
