Geeneus – Ultrafunkula

London based Geeneus’ track Ultrafunkula, featured on Warp Record’s compilation of bass music: North/South/East/West, alongside Falty DL, Headhunter, Mike Slott and Warp’s own Hudson Mohawke and Rustie.

Geeneus is the founder of Rinse.fm and probably best known as one of the producers of the Pay As You Go garage/grime crew. He was one of the early adopters of the UK Funky sound, and has been pushing the sound since.

Hot City – Hot City Bass

Recently featured on Fabric’s Elevator Music volume 1 with the bass-heavy tune “If that’s how I feel”, Hot City’s pushing out some nice bass-driven housy tracks. This one, Hot City Bass, was released last year on Ramp recordings, but it still sounds killer to me.

On a side note, I just found out I missed Hot City passing through Antwerp this weekend alongside Drop The Lime, anyone catch it?

Ripperton – Farra

Swiss guy Raphael Ripperton released his debut album ‘Niwa’ on Green. I liked the track ‘Farra’ the most, but the whole album is worth checking.

You can download a free track called ‘Modal Love’ at the Green website. Lovely stuff!

Scuba – You Got Me

Scuba’s releasing his new album ‘Triangulation’ on March 22, but some of the tracks of the album are featured on his excellent Sub:Stance mix. Like this incredible ‘You Got Me’. He’s coming down to Ghent (March 5 in Vooruit, alongside 2562 and Untold) and Brussels (February 27 in Recyclart).

DFRNT – Short Bus

DFRNT is on a roll. I hear a bit of Joy Orbison in this track (the opening pads!), but the second drop is pure bliss.

Peter Van Hoesen – Abstract One

Fuse club in Brussels has a new resident DJ, Peter Van Hoesen. If you’re into Basic Channel, you’ll like his stuff. Like this ‘Abstract One’, his 4/4 sounds are scaped from pure blackness. So I’m curious to see how that will work out on the dancefloor. You can download his last EP for free at bandcamp (in excellent 320 quality)!

Seba & Lotek – So Long

I can not express how much I love this song, and how many times I’ve put it on my turntable. It’s Seba’s first release (1996), and it appeared on Bukem’s Looking Good label. The track is over ten minutes, and has several mood changes. Along the track, new sounds are gradually added in a very subtle way (the Amen-break, the bass, new melodies), and in this way you are guided slowly into Seba’s dreamy story. Mmmmm, take your time.

Martyn – Hear Me (Zomby remix)

Martyn and Zomby together, sounds as a killer combination to me! And yes indeed, this track combines best of both crazy creative minds. Zomby creates a dark (darker then Hear me, yes!) atmosphere over bouncing kwaito beats. The sound of 2010 has been defined!

Just released as 12″ and MP3 release, with a RedShape remix on the flip.

Appleblim & Geiom – Shreds

One from last year. Appleblim and Geiom build up this track very slowly, taking you deep into the smooth, sultry vibe. Perfect for summer nights.
